BWG Bavarian Watch, the edgy style watch company

Clear categories are increasingly merging and interpenetrating each other. Diversity is the defining trend of our time. The BAVARIA fully corresponds to this trend. The clear and tidy dial of the BAVARIA sits in an 8.5 mm flat case with striking baroque shaped horns, which have become the trademark of BWG watches.

The play with the baroque elements and the clear typography points to the Bavarian origin of the design. Just as Munich is traditional and progressive at the same time. It was not for nothing that this design was awarded the Good Design Award.

The motivation

When designer Frank Giese thought about developing a new watch in 2018, it was for purely personal reasons.

As a watch lover, Frank has acquired a whole range of different watches over the years. From well-known brands to no-name watches that he found at the flea market. But he has a very special story associated with a watch. After graduating from high school, Frank was drafted into the military, even though he was absolutely convinced that he was unsuitable. But the authorities saw it completely differently and certified him as having the highest level of suitability.

Life's a Runway: Style Every Phase of Your Life!

Faced with the prospect of spending some time crawling around in the mud under primitive conditions, Frank made a decision that finally made those around him question his sanity. He invested his entire future annual salary in purchasing a luxury watch with the intention of wearing it during the inevitable stays in the tent in the great outdoors and under all conditions of use. Simply for the purpose of always being able to reassure yourself that better times will come and that civilization may not be so far away after all.

Normally when you think of something like this you might think of one of the popular military or sports watches. But Frank decided on a Cartier Santos. Uniform, yes, but with style. In his opinion, nothing went better with green stuff than a steel and gold Cartier.

The dream of becoming a pilot

Quite apart from the fact that military service turned out to be far less serious than feared and Frank even briefly considered training to become a pilot, his new watch proved to be extremely robust and reliable. Furthermore, every glance at the watch assured him of the feeling of being in control and being able to enjoy beautiful things even under the strangest conditions. Needless to say, the short-term prospect of a pilot career for Frank subsequently underlined the logic of his choice of watch. After all, the Santos was the first pilot's watch ever.

It was this watch that subtly gave him support and reassurance in all the less good moments in his life.

Disappointment

When Frank decided in 2018 that the old lady deserved a little rest and that he deserved a new watch, he found... nothing. At least nothing he would have liked.

That's why he decided to design his own watch; he had now completed an industrial design degree and already had several years of experience in design. It quickly became clear that the project would become more than just a one-off piece. So the idea slowly arose not to build a single watch, but to found a watch company.

BAVARIA

The first BAVARIA model was intended to provide everything that a luxury watch should be for a reasonable entry-level price. Above all, it should give the wearer the feeling that Frank Giese gave his Santos back then. With one look at the handcrafted case and the precise dial, you can always be sure that style makes life extraordinary in every situation. In addition, the watches from BWG Bavarian Watch are characterized by a playful approach to the traditions of watch history. According to this logic, a dress watch is not necessarily just a dress watch and a sports watch is not necessarily just a sports watch. Maybe a diving bezel is just there to measure when to turn the meat on the grill. Every watch at BWG Bavarian Watch is created according to this maxim.
